I’ve been called a fantastic man by the magazine Fantastic Man on a couple of occasions. Back in 2017, the publisher’s sent out questionnaires to a handful of Fantastic Men all over the world. As a present, we each received custom made tshirts with our published answers. I was just cleaning my drawers when I stumbled upon it. The funniest part was my answer to my favorite cologne. They clearly left it out. The incredible photographer Roy Blakey passed away today. Roy, a former Holiday on Ice skater, was the master of male photography in 70s and 80s New York City. I met and interviewed him exactly 20 years ago for both @buttmagazine and @manfantastic - he was so adorable. Bless him and his niece @keripickett who cared for him in his final years xxx

Went designer spotting in the huge @antoncorbijn4real exhibition @cobramuseum in Amstelveen. Plus one pic of Corbijn himself on @yohjiyamamotoofficial runway, 1996.

I interviewed Nan Goldin years ago, but, as memory goes, couldn’t remember much of the story. Was it any good? Did I have a clue of who she is or what she stands for? Today, while digging through boxes of old work, look what I found. And you know what? It was published in @volkskrantmagazine exactly 20 years ago today - 6 December 2003. Nan is a great conversationalist in the piece, amazingly radical and shameless. Political action as art. We spoke for two hours in her flat in Paris, or so says the story. She’d recently fallen off a horse in Egypt and broke her left ribs. She said she would never, ever make a photo to piss off or make fun of the subject. She detested catholicism and religion in general but had a soft spot for Saint Barbara, coincidentally also the name of her late sister, whose face she had trouble remembering. Hence why she thought she picked up photography in the first place. To make sure you’ll remember. She’s currently showing at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and that show is a must see.
