Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys at “The Louis” in Shanghai has been named by @prixversailles as one of the world’s most beautiful emporiums. Conceived by @shohei_shigematsu, the exhibition unfolds across nine distinct rooms that explore the House’s heritage and foundational themes—travel, craftsmanship, fashion, and innovation. Drawing from both archival and contemporary stories, artifacts, collections, and quintessential iconographies and emblems of the House, the scenography communicates the timeless craftsmanship and spirit of creative reinvention of the House savoir-faire—to immerse visitors in a multisensory journey. #omanewyork #shoheishigematsu #louisvuitton #exhibitiondesign

Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys, designed by OMA/ @shohei_shigematsu, is now open to the public at @nakkaart2022. Surveying over 170 years of Louis Vuitton through history, savoir-faire, global expansion, and cultural dialogue, the exhibition is the first and most extensive Visionary Journeys to be held in a cultural institution, featuring over 1,000 objects and 200 Japan-specific artifacts. Spanning 2,200 square meters at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, the exhibition unfolds across 11 thematic galleries. At the entrance, eight monumental lanterns wrapped in Monogram washi paper are suspended from the ceiling, softly illuminating the five-story space. Trunkscapes, composed of 138 vintage trunks and mirrored by a glass floor, forms a dramatic hemispherical installation. Key rooms explore craftsmanship, material innovation, and travel narratives—Origins, Materials, and Expeditions—while the Monogram canvas appears in both archival and contemporary forms. The exhibition is on view until Sep 17, 2025. #omanewyork #shoheishigematsu #louisvuitton

#OMAPostOccupancy Since opening in 2021, POST Houston—OMA/ @jlong_ ‘s transformation of a former regional United States Postal Service headquarters on the periphery of downtown Houston—has become a vibrant nexus for work, food, the arts, and events. This adaptive-reuse project involved creating surgical interventions within the existing structure like three atria, which serve as scaffolds for diverse public events and activities. #OMANewYork @posthtx @artclubhtx

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams, designed by OMA/ @shohei_shigematsu, is on view at @ddp_seoul. This show expands the conversation between @dior’s over 70 years of creative history and Korean culture. Unlike the more conventional museum galleries where previous exhibitions have been staged, DDP’s Art Hall 1 is a vast, uninterrupted space. Hierarchy had to be established from scratch and, to this end, themed rooms were inserted into the space – like discrete buildings comprising a mini city within DDP. OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu said, “We are thrilled to bring a new version of Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams to Seoul, for which elements from this rich cultural context have been incorporated into the design. Because DDP’s Art Hall 1 has no rooms or walls, we had carte blanche to conceptually and physically develop our scenographic approach. Themed exhibits are scaled and shaped to give this journey rhythm. Intimate rooms lead into oversized environments – a Parisian street, an occupiable skirt and moon jar, a tunnel of cabinets, an infinite archive, a surreal spiral stair – where viewers are enveloped in the world of Dior.” The exhibition is on view until July 13, 2025. OMA/ @shoheishigematsu have designed two distinct rooms dedicated to Louis Vuitton for the French Pavilion at World Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai. “A Hymn to Love,” the pavilion’s theme, draws together five odes that are each signified by a different Rodin hand sculpture. The sculptor’s work The Cathedral symbolizes both Louis Vuitton’s melding of timeless heritage and constant reinvention and the union of French and Japanese culture. Two contrasting experiences, which foreground Louis Vuitton trunks, embody these tensions. The first room is a library that showcases Louis Vuitton’s history of craftsmanship and artistry. 84 wardrobe trunks with various interior configurations wrap the room. The open trunks, which produce a lantern-like effect, gradually close further into the space. Embedded screens display videos of craftsmen and artisans while IRCAM’s sound installation features samples from the historic Asnières atelier. The second room, in contrast, is a contemporary environment that performs the spirit of voyage. 90 white Courrier Lozine trunks form a 6.6-meter diameter, 13-ton globe, a familiar icon from past World Expositions, and it is motorized to move vertically and revolve. The trunks compose a blank canvas for a video installation by Daito Manabe, and the sphere’s dynamics are synced to the artwork. @louisvuitton @expo2025japan #EXPO2025 #大阪関西万博 Installation photography by @_marcocappelletti

The expanded New Museum on The Bowery will open this Fall, and will mark OMA’s first public building in New York City. Designed to complement and respect the integrity of the adjoining SANAA-designed flagship building, the 7-story, 60,000sf structure will double the exhibition galleries, spaces for community and education programs. It will also provide a permanent home for NEW INC, more public amenities, and improved circulation. “The New Museum is an incubator for new cultural perspectives and production, and the expansion aims to embody that attitude of openness,” said OMA Partner @shohei_shigematsu. “Imagined as a highly connected yet distinct counterpart to the existing museum’s verticality and solidity, the new building will offer horizontally expansive galleries for curatorial variety, open vertical circulation, and a diversity of spaces for gathering, exchange, and creation. The building is further shaped to create an active public face—including an outdoor plaza at the ground, moments of transparency throughout the central atrium, and terraced openings at the top—that will openly engage the surrounding community and beyond.” The inaugural exhibition, “New Humans: Memories of the Future,” will span the entirety of the newly expanded and connected museum with works from over 150 artists. The New Museum expansion is designed by OMA/Shohei Shigematsu (Partner in Charge), Rem Koolhaas (Partner in Collaboration), Jake Forster (Associate), and team in New York, in collaboration with Cooper Robertson (Executive Architect).

For the upcoming World Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, OMA/ @shohei_shigematsu have designed the scenography for Louis Vuitton within the French Pavilion. Two rooms will feature two distinct installations, showcasing and celebrating the House’s rich history of craftmanship and unique savoir-faire. The first room will be a “library” of trunks in an infinite array, highlighting the diversity of craft and creation. In the second room, a “globe” of trunks embodying the spirit of voyage will transport visitors to a more contemporary environment, with a video installation by Japanese artist Daito Manabe. World Expo 2025 will open to the public on Yumeshima Island in Osaka Bay from April 13 to October 13. @louisvuitton @expo2025japan #EXPO2025 #大阪関西万博

🌟 Exciting news! LANTERN has been nominated as the Building of the Year for 2025 by @ArchDaily! We invite you to support this project by voting at the link in our bio. Designed by @OMA_NewYork and led by OMA Partner Jason Long, the innovative design embraced the building’s previous state of disrepair, transforming an area missing both its roof and an end wall into a courtyard at the heart of the building. Defined as the primary entry with multiple frontages for all tenants, the courtyard becomes a public gateway and an activity condenser. #LANTERNDetroit @LittleVillageDetroit #LittleVillageDetroit #OmaNewYork Photo by @JasonKeenCo

As part of an ongoing collaboration with Louis Vuitton on the Maison’s architectural identity, OMA/ @shohei_shigematsu designed a series of trunk towers for the atrium of the newly opened NYC store on 57th Street. Earlier this year, OMA created a modular system using classic Louis Vuitton Courrier Lozine 90 trunks to construct architectural environments, which was first deployed as an arched tunnel “trunkscape” for the Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys exhibition in Bangkok. The installation for the 5-story atrium of the NYC store is an iteration of the same language, this time, to create towering trunk sculptures emphasizing the verticality of the Maison’s largest space in the US to date. Four towers composed of iconic Courrier Lozine 90 trunks reach 16 meters in height, showcasing strength and lightness. The trunks are stacked in different configurations to erect shifting, counterbalancing, twisting, and zigzagging forms. Each tower is further distinguished by using different Louis Vuitton canvases – historic stripes, classic Monogram canvas, white Damier Azur, and metallic Monogram – communicating the Louis Vuitton codes that have redefined the timeless piece over time. #omanewyork #shoheishigematsu #louisvuitton #lvtrunk

New photos of the @buffaloakgartmuseum, featured in the August @au_magazine @shohei_shigematsu issue. On the new Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building’s ground floor, we started with galleries in the shape of a cross, or a plus sign (because it’s an addition). The galleries lie at the heart of the building while four transparent corners—containing lobby, media gallery, office, and loading dock—bring the park in and surround the museum in nature. We had been observing how museums are evolving to provide diverse avenues of public engagement through expanded gallery activities and non-exhibition programs. We felt that museums now need to strike the right balance between programmed and programmable space, and must find new relationships between them. Our response was to wrap the second-level gallery with a promenade, an unprogrammed space for various activities—from sculpture exhibitions and galas to educational programs and wellness classes. The promenade and stack of efficient galleries are enveloped by a transparent facade that achieves an open and ephemeral quality. This “veil” covers the promenade to form a double-height buffer zone between nature and art. The resulting winter garden simultaneously embeds visitors in the park and exposes the museum’s activities to the campus and city. 📷: @jasonorear #shoheishigematsu #buffalo #artmuseum
