I dress people.
Sometimes I dress myself.
Find me in Paris, NY or @nevermindagency_
In 2013 I became fashion director of a men’s magazine that didn’t yet exist. I didn’t know much about menswear specifically at the time, so I began researching from what I did know: film. Creating something that is immediately understood and identifiable is no easy task. Mr. Armani had done so with immaculate ease when he launched his namesake house, and changed fashion as we know it forever. His innate understanding of how a person wants to see themselves became a guiding principle from which to begin my new menswear task. American Gigolo, specifically, encapsulated everything I would want to achieve as a fledgling editor, and with it Mr. Armani became my unknowing tutor. The adventurer I would build out in my fashion pages began with him, his ease, his drape. His legacy will live on forever and, along with it, my gratitude. @giorgioarmani 🙏

In A Magazine Curated By Willy Chavarria @NewYorkWilly, Family Portraits captures the many different definitions the word family can embody. Accompanied by excerpts from Geraldine Barón, jotted down in moments of hope and anxiety in her search to become a queer single parent, the story shines a light on chosen families based in and out of New York. Photographed at @TheHancockFoundation, a Brooklyn-based artist residency and cultural space dedicated to supporting the arts and fostering community engagement, this chapter of issue #28 honours Willy's long-lasting devotion to building bridges, setting aside differences and finding the common human thread — love, kindness and camaraderie. Brooks Brothers has held one fashion show in 200 years of the house. I styled it. At the time, a certain Vogue reviewer said it looked as if it had been styled in the dark (all other reviews were positive). He was wrong. I was shedding light. I was too timid to say as much then, but one of the only things I’m never timid with is clothes. It’s my medium of choice for talking about culture, politics, and the tides of change to come. Brooks Brothers created a uniform for the rich and preppy to identify each other. That was once culturally disruptive. As billionaires now eat people like me for breakfast, Vogue put Mrs. Bezos on yet another cover and Jonathan in one beautiful show will have us all looking like preppy rich kids, I’m reminded of that Brooks Brothers show. The brand has never been the best at owning its cultural space. But, without Brooks Brothers, there would be no Ralph, no Tommy, no J. Crew, no… To the kids who grew up like me but love fashion, Brooks Brothers is there for you to disrupt shit with. Let’s each own our cultural space together.
My gender decides the fate of the world. My, gender. Decides the fate. Of the world. That weight runs heavy. Not heavy enough. Thank you @gwentrannoy @barongeraldine for exploring this existential inquiry with me. Thank you @willychavarrianewyork @amagazinecuratedby @blakeabbie for granting us space to do so. Family is an abstract. Geraldine, your decision to parent beautiful Ama inspires me daily. To those for whom family is not an abstraction, I admire your many forms. With love, Family Portraits. I was with @newyorkwilly at our usual breakfast meet spot when he told me that he would be the next guest curator of @amagazinecuratedby The importance of community is something Willy and I hold in common, and the weight of protecting community is something that, especially now, so many of us share. This magazine is a testament to what a bunch of people who love can do. I’m honored to be part of it. @blakeabbie @willychavarrianewyork thank you for your trust. @jesscuevas7 your mind works in magical ways. @gwentrannoy @barongeraldine thank you for bringing this conversation around family to life, and for speaking from your heart.
