It’s been a wonderful experience to grow a project from inception, it’s always been a dream of mine to design (and redesign) a magazine, but being able to showcase photo stories, commission portraits, platform people and work that I care about has been life giving. I’ve now reached the end of my journey with @thealteredstatesmagazine I want to sincerely thank @michaelalexanderharding and @hannahelizabethelwell for our time and collaboration. I’m super greatful for the community that has come together around Altered States and I’m very proud of the platform we built togeather. While we reach for a shared feeling, the steps we take to get there are all quite different. Romance feels inherently formless as a result. What we each find romantic is our own to discover. A Room with a View is a collection of advances, a courtship between materiality and the photographic image. Playing the role of Cupid, the exhibition pulls together a collection of makers from different corners, each enacting a form of romantic gesture, highlighting the nuances of Romance, the charge that they can hold and what sensations they can bring. 🦪 Exhibition Catalogue for Beyond Sight A conversational exhibition between original works by @joy_bc and artefacts from the Middle Ages and the renaissance, pulled from the archive of @lesenluminures Featuring still life’s by @chris.rhodes “An exhibition exploring the materiality of art and jewelry. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, sight occupied a place of pride, seconded by taste, hearing, touch and smell. Through a series of artworks, we examine how we can recover traces of these ‘secondary’ senses that are, along with sight, inherent in the materiality of the works. This aspect of medieval culture is being dissected in dialogue with contemporary artist-goldsmith Joy Bonfield-Colombara.” Exhibition open by appointment until Jan 10th 2025 23 E/73rd st.
