MET 2025 has truly been one of the most surreal experiences of my life! Thank you @diljitdosanjh paaji for believing in me and giving me the opportunity on a such a large global platform to showcase your vision. #punjabichagayeoye I’m also forever greatful for having the best mentor a girl can have @rheakapoor. Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader and always having my back. None of this was remotely possible without my incredible and exceptionally talented team to pull together such a grand look in less than 2 weeks! It’s been a rollercoaster and I know I’m late to this but I wanted to thank everyone for the love We’ve received 🙏🙏 And share the story of how we came up with the look. A day before I left for Japan (3 weeks before the DAY) I met Diljit paaji for a fitting of a film which led to us discussing the look of the MET. He had a very clear vision on what he wanted the overall look to be like. His inspiration was the look of the Maharaja of Patiala, the most fitting inspo for the day. Diljit wanted to pay homage to his culture and wanted to showcase his true roots. Black Dandyism is about serving looks when the world said you had no right to. So Diljit’s look was a nod to everyone who fought to keep their roots, their history and their truth alive. I was flying to Japan for a work trip and whilst in transit, I was sipping on some green juice with my friend @amaker7 and she had this beautiful tattoo in Gurmukhi on her arm. It reads as ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ caṛhadī kalā) or Charhdi Kala . It is the Punjabi term for aspiring to maintain a mental state of eternal resilience, optimism and joy. In that moment I knew I had to have this sacred text somewhere on the design. Paaji was immediately on board after he heard this idea. Instead of placing them all over the outfit he insisted having the 35 alphabets of the Gurmukhi placed together put into the map of Punjab. After narrowing down on the silhouette; it was decided it would be on the upper back of the cape . And this information was then transferred to @prabalgurung and his lovely team @stylingbyvictor @pitambarabymanisha @sohail__mughal___ they swatched a lot of different embroideries and got our beautiful vision to life. So now that the outfit was decided, it was time to focus on the jewels. Our inspiration for the jewelry was set from the start. It was the cartier necklace from the Maharajas personal collection. So we remade a version of it that was inspired by the original with the team at @golecha_jewels . and of course the most gorg watch by @cartier . Rest in comments….
