When #DowntonAbbey creator Julian Fellowes was asked if ‘The Grand Finale’ was truly the Crawley clan’s final fling, his answer was a tease: ‘Never say never.’ Elizabeth McGovern’s response? An eye-roll. ‘As far as I’m concerned, it’s done. I loved making this film, but I’m over it. I’m ready to move on.’ Before she bids a final adieu to the beloved American at the heart of Britain’s favourite period drama, the Academy Award-nominated actress is stepping into a new role: Tatler’s October cover star, radiant in Burberry. Elizabeth is shedding Lady Cora’s pearls and inviting Tatler behind the scenes of her stellar next act – from walking for Burberry to treading the boards as silver-screen siren Ava Gardner in her self-written play, ‘Ava: The Secret Conversations’. Get ready, the October issue arrives on newsstands on 4th September. Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, the royal who famously stepped back from official duties to go incognito as a music teacher, has died at the age of 92. Buckingham Palace announced her passing, in a statement which read, 'Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.’ ‘The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.’ To look back on the Duchess’ life of public service, click the link in our bio.
Housed within the former US Embassy, @TheChanceryRosewood has just reopened following an extensive eight year museum-worthy restoration. The revitalisation of one of London’s most illustrious 20th-century addresses would have been a challenge for anyone, but architect Sir David Chipperfield has, for sure, risen to it with great effect. Tatler’s Travel Editor @DelilahKhomo was among one of the first guests to make her stay – discovering that there’s something restorative in the balance between brutalism and hedonism and giving us an exclusive look at the all new indulgence. #DowntonAbbey is loved across the globe for its scandalous portrayal of Britain’s aristocracy in the 1920s – and (crucially) its illustrious cast of irresistible gentlemen. From #TheoJames to #EdSpeleers, the polished footmen and aristocratic heirs that walk the halls of Highclere Castle, have set pulses racing for over a decade. With the Crawley clan taking to Leicester Square for the premiere of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and Elizabeth McGovern gracing the cover of Tatler’s October issue – on sale now – it’s time for the definitive list of the most devastatingly handsome men to ever steal the screen from the Countess of Grantham. #GiorgioArmani, the Italian designer on every royal dresser’s speed dial, has passed away peacefully at the age of 91, surrounded by his loved ones. Announcing his death today, a statement from his employees and family members read, ‘We feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion, and dedication. But it is precisely in his spirit that we commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory.' Ever since 1975, when he started Giorgio Armani SpA with £8,000, Mr Armani always took fashion’s high road, opting for grace over gimmick and favouring the greatest style ethos: simplicity. Today, almost 50 years after his first fashion show, his regal power remains: the Princess of Wales, Queen Rania of Jordan and Princess Caroline of Monaco all wear his timeless silhouettes. #KateMiddleton debuted her blondest hair to date as she joined #PrinceWilliam to visit the Natural History Museum today – in the pair’s first official appearance since Wimbledon in July. The royal couple donned co-ordinating looks for the occasion. The Princess of Wales in a smart blazer, simple jacket and white shirt, with a pair of black tailored trousers. The ensemble appeared to perfectly match Prince William, who also chose an open-necked shirt, blazer and trousers. Kate and William have often chosen to coordinate their looks over the years, twinning in similar cuts and colours for joint official engagements. The decision is seen by royal watchers as a way of displaying unity between the Prince and Princess. For more information on the visit, click the link in our bio.

Heard the one about the Tory peer and the Bond girl? No, it’s not a forgotten 007 novel – it’s the #societywedding of the year. He’s the banking scion expelled from Eton, with a penchant for poker. She’s the beautiful PR exec great niece of James Bond author Ian Fleming. Together Zac Goldsmith and Hum Fleming are the newest of society’s golden couples. Set to marry this weekend, the nuptials mark the meeting of two of Britain’s most illustrious (and gossiped-about) #dynasties. What’s the story? Tatler’s Features Director @eilidhhargreaves reveals all. Full story in the September issue, on sale now.
Where else would one shop for a Grade II-listed manor once graced by Queen Mary and later rock ’n’ roll royalty but the #Cotswolds? Stanley Park, the 1584 pile briefly rented by Britpop legend #LiamGallagher ahead of his sell-out #Oasis reunion tour, comes with 11 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a gym, sauna and a wine cellar with capacity for 4,000 bottles – ideal for post-show antics. Brother Noel was even spotted in the gardens enjoying a kickabout with sons Donovan and Sonny. The Gothic house has a long lineage of illustrious guests. When it was still a baronial family seat, the lady of the house, Lady Beatrice Marling, hosted afternoon tea for Queen Mary, who spent several hours admiring the views and exploring the estate. For £6 million, this slice of aristocratic-meets-rock history could be yours, let the bids roll in. Curious? Link in our bio.
Well-wishes are in order for #QueenRania of Jordan, who celebrated her 55th birthday over the weekend. Since marrying King Abdullah II in 1993, she has captivated the world with her impeccable #royalstyle. As elegant in traditional Jordanian clothing as bedecked in diamonds at lavish gala dinners, the philanthropist and education advocate knows how to dress for any occasion. Her look at Crown Prince Hussein’s wedding was one of her most stylish ever, a black long-sleeved gown from the Dior A/W 2022 couture collection. Similarly triumphant sartorial displays came at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla and on a visit to Spain, where Rania went toe-to-toe with Queen Letizia to deliver a series of sensational outfits. In honour of her milestone birthday, Tatler is celebrating some of her most memorable style moments. Link in our bio for more.
