I don’t think I’ve ever had a production photo like this one before in my humble/short career… this set is a small replica of a film make up trailer, but in early stage of designing this set I told @jiyounchangjiji that “I think this room should almost feel like we’re inside of a fridge.” Because I know I keep opening the fridge at 1:00am hoping that there’s an answer to all of my problems in it. Because I also know it’s almost impossible to keep the inside of a fridge clean. I want to be in it, and I want to defile it. I’m so happy that @sethphoto captured this room the way it feels so contained, isolated and moody. I feel like I’m looking inside my fridge in this photo, it’s almost giving me the human connection I yearn for, but it’s also empty and sad like I haven’t bought groceries in weeks. I design like this, I think like this. I don’t know why or how.. but I’m so happy that the painters and I stayed up until 2:30am getting all the paint notes done, because it was so worth it! It takes a little and a lot to just be happy these days - to be in a state of mind that’s distracted just enough from just enough things that we are troubled by. I don’t know if this is relatable for anyone but I become happy the most when I feel like I am simply a living organism in a fully realized sense, not just in cerebral or theoretical sense. When I challenge myself to do new things, I feel alive. “Adrenaline junkie?” Maybe. Or maybe that’s not what it’s about. I actually feel relieved when I’m exposed to danger. Not something like a threat to my status quo - how the society views me or determines my usefulness, nor the pressure of competition - but a real pray-that-mother-nature-will-spare-me kind of danger. When every cell of my body awakens to make sure that I don’t fall and crash while cornering, all those worries go away in that moment, and in that moment, not one cell in my body gives a fuck about how people think about me. Every time I put my gear on at home before going outside to get on my motorcycle my heart rate goes up and I begin to sweat. It scares me every time. And I should be - I’m a beginner and have little experience with riding. I still stall my motorcycle at stop lights. I still practice in the parking lot and small curvy roads in upstate area. And then I forget about all of the fear and anxiety I had back in my living room where I was lacing up my boots. It makes me think of my other anxieties. I often don’t go to social gatherings because I am terribly anxious in such environments. I get ridiculously nervous every single time I go to a casting or an audition. I get tingly feelings in my hands before I get on a zoom meeting for a show I’m working on. Practicing how to fight my own fear has been really amazing. No matter what it is that I do, there were people who expressed their doubts and negativity about it to me - among strangers and even close friends. Family too. But it’s so not about them. If I don’t learn how to fight my own fear and prove my doubt wrong, I’d be blaming everyone else for how I’m not moving forward. Don’t have to be an expert in everything, there’s joy in simply being surprised to learn that you like something you’ve never tried before. And now I’m a proud owner of my 2019 Kawasaki Ninja 400 ABS.
