Tales from the Motherland. 🇵🇭 One of the September covers for @voguephilippines. This past July, I had the privilege of spending time in Siargao, one of the many incredible Filipino islands, with both of my families—my personal one, and my editorial one. Not long ago, Siargao was devastated by Typhoon Odette. And yet, upon arriving this summer, you’d hardly know it. The resilience of the community is extraordinary. Through unity and quiet determination, they rebuilt not just their homes but their way of life, crafting something distinctly Filipino—an island spirit partly shaped by inherited Spanish influences and new French touches, creating a warm Asian–Euro rhythm that feels both familiar and entirely its own. We fell in love with it. During my time there, I came to understand more deeply the hopes and challenges the island faces. Local business owners and activists spoke passionately about the promise of tourism as a path to growth, while also stressing the dangers of over-tourism. Their question is not if to move forward, but how—how to build sustainably, both economically and culturally; how to welcome visitors while encouraging mindfulness and respect. To my traveling creative family at @voguephilippines—thank you for tolerating me for this long shoot, for always giving me space to tell these stories with you, and for helping shape them into love letters to our Lolas through photographs. It is, as always, a journey of heart and home.
