I remember attending the opening of the GIORGIO ARMANI retrospective exhibition at the @Guggenheim in New York, October 2000. His collections were a powerful testament to how ahead of his time he was — a reflection of his passion, creativity, and artistry. His work - his designs and his imagery- not only inspired a generation but continues to influence and shape the world of fashion today. A while ago I was asked by my friend Giles to photograph him. He is someone who I admired enormously for his talent, courage, exceptional work both in the photography world and helping people affected by the adversity of war. It was such an honor to capture this image of Giles. “As for this portrait? There are not many images of me with my prosthetics visible. But I am not embarrassed or ashamed, rather the opposite for they are a symbol of how I’m prepared to take a hit for what I believe in. I was going to create this image as a self-portrait, but the choose to ask my friend Paola, because I love her work, I love her and most importantly, I trusted her to represent me in the way I see myself”- Giles Duley.
