The NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Centre began its latest season on Friday with a sold-out concert by Palestinian singer, pianist and composer Faraj Suleiman. During his UAE debut, he delivered a standout performance in The Red Theatre, showcasing evocative songwriting that weaves jazz, rock and classical Arabic influences, as heard on his breakthrough album Better Than Berlin and his latest release Maryam. Speaking to The National after the show, Suleiman described the Abu Dhabi audience as one of the best he has encountered on his current world tour. “I have been looking forward to this show for a long time and I am happy the chance came to connect with my audience in Abu Dhabi.” The season continues throughout the year and into 2026 at the NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Centre, with film screenings, dance productions and the Tamas music festival on January 29, headlined by Lebanese singer Yasmine Hamdan.

Drawing from the well of his life experiences, pioneer of hip-hop theater turned award-winning photographer Benji Reid mixes Afro-futurist imagery with hard-hitting tales from his life and adventures in an unexpected show.

Our first artist class visit of our 11th season. Faraj Suleiman visits Dr Ghazi Al-Mulaifi’s Global Jazz class, digging into the fundamental questions of whether what he plays is Jazz or Arabic music, his approach to composing, and much more.
