DER WEG (Trailer) is not a film. It is a rite.
. “She acts, suffers, runs, is led, seduced, touched, anointed, transformed – and yet remains porous. She is not a heroine in the classical sense but rather a vehicle. A projection surface. A seeker. Or a medium – through which collective fears, hopes, stories, and traumas speak. Her voice is silent, but the film screams. Right at the beginning: a moment of catharsis – screaming, vomiting. And the reason doesn’t matter. That emotional peak marks not the end, but the beginning of the path. What follows are images, quotations, and associations: religious references – Mary, the Last Supper, anointing; political allegories – Honecker, the Stasi, crystal meth in the Stasi, Nazi bunker; cultural reflections – Barbara Kruger, Ton Steine Scherben, Spring Breakers, Ku Klux Klan, the Spanish Day of the Dead. In competitive sports, the successes of Black athletes are often attributed to racism, revealing white fantasies of a supernaturally fast Black body. Anna Laudel Istanbul is delighted to host “Once the Pavement Ends” on its ground floor, a group exhibition that invites visitors to reconsider their connection to the street and the city, as well as notice what often goes unseen amid the hustle and bustle of daily life. The exhibition will be on view at Anna Laudel Istanbul until August 31, 2025.⁣ ⁣ Featuring works by Lennart Brede, Ramazan Can, Tuğçe Diri, Bilal Hakan Karakaya, Ardan Özmenoğlu, Daniele Sigalot, Cem Sonel, and Serpil Yeter, the selection offers traces that touch the rhythm, surface, and memory of the city. The exhibition not only reflects urban diversity but also showcases the variety of artistic productions inspired by it. Drawing inspiration from different corners of the street, the artists reinterpret the hidden stories within details using various techniques. Every element captured in the works, from manhole covers to mosaics, cobblestones to market stalls, bears a trace of Istanbul, presenting an archive shaped by the city’s flow.
