Lara Stone, shot by British photographer Nick Knight and styled by Carine Roitfeld.⁠ ⁠ It was 2004, the year Facebook launched, the summer Olympics were held in Athens, and athleisure was not yet a glimmer in anyone’s eye, that the cover of the November issue of Vogue Paris changed history by doing the unthinkable: It showed a Kate Moss in a Nike sports bra. ⁠ ⁠ Then, led by Carine Roitfeld as the title’s editor-in-chief, it was the first time the sports giant appeared on the cover of a fashion magazine, forever changing sport’s relationship with high fashion. ⁠ ⁠ Twenty-one years later, with the ever-increasing merger of sports and fashion, the image still reverberates. In May, we also celebrate the rise of French directors – visionaries like Coralie Fargeat and Rebecca Zlotowski – who have redefined storytelling through the female gaze. As Cannes approaches, our portfolio revisits the Festival’s most emblematic moments, while highlighting a bold new generation of French cinema.
