I was asked to shoot a long story for the September issue but my schedule only allowed me a day in a Cairo. We started shootings at 7:30am downtown before the traffic and heat built up in the city and ended at 730pm on a rooftop. One of those days that seemed totally effortless even with so many pages to fill. I landed in Cairo from a red eye flight from New York and went straight into a street scout in Cairo. Hot and jet lagged we walked around downtown to look at streets, apartments and rooftops for the story we would start shooting the following day. I was exhausted in the heat and lack of sleep- so I just chose locations with my gut and tried not to overthink anything. I wanted to shoot the city without the eyes of a tourist and in the same way I would approach a New York street shoot .. which was very hard considering it was my first time to Egypt.
