Panties against patriarchy: The activist group Lanna Action for Burma struck Myanmar’s military regime where it hurt—below the belt. Between 2007 and 2010, they bombarded embassies worldwide with packages of women’s underwear addressed to top generals, weaponizing a Burmese superstition: that male spiritual power (hpoun) is weakened by contact with female garments. With slogans like “With our sarongs flying high as flags—vote for the Lanna Panty Party!” their satire cut deep. By referring to Junta members’ appalling reputations as abusers, and attempting to degrade their male ego precisely where they have hurt their sisters-in-arms, the members of the Lanna Action group demonstrate their fearless command on a battlefield of their own: derision and humor. ‘What is the first artwork you ever saw?’👀 It’s always fascinating to hear what first piece of art made a lasting impression – whether it was in a museum, a book, or even something at home. Last Saturday, we turned the courtyard of KW Institute for Contemporary Art ( @kwinstitutefcontemporaryart) & Café Bravo ( @cafe_bravo_kw) into a buzzing little hub with our Croissant Session No.03, not even the rain could stop us! Croissant Sessions are our daytime IRL-events for our community and dancing vibes at their heart. And that’s exactly what happened: with music by Swim Good’s ( @swimgoodforever) very own DJs Stimulus ( @stimmystim), Jenesis ( @djjenesis), and Trigger T ( @triggertassi) and drinks by Café Bravo ( @cafe_bravo_kw) the morning turned into a buzzing dance session with you to get the weekend started. Thank you to everyone who swung by, danced despite the rain and made our third Croissant Session a very special one! SAVE THE DATE: mark your calendars for the next round. Croissant Session Nr. 04 is set for the 20.09. We can’t wait for another groovy Saturday morning packed with music and the right energy with you! For 25 years, Han Bing @hanbingstudio has been walking a cabbage—a quietly radical act that began in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 2000. The cabbage, a symbol of rural nourishment and social inequality, becomes a subversive companion in urban space. By turning an ordinary act into performance, Bing challenges what we perceive as “natural” or “normal,” exposing systems of power and exclusion. In Kashmir, the performance lives on as the Kashmiri Cabbage Walker. Dressed in a traditional pheran, this fugitive figure pulls a cabbage through hyper-militarized streets—a silent provocation in a region where there is one soldier for every seven civilians. In order to evade state control and connect with global liberation movements, the figure remains fleeting, collective and anonymous. At the 13th Berlin Biennale at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, the playful yet powerful cart, reminds us of the potential of gestures to become radical actions that resound globally. Did you ever wonder about the sound installation in the courtyard of KW? 🔊 Above the entrance of KW’s courtyard is a trumpet–shaped loudspeaker, which intermittently broadcasts a song titled 'Rosa', a commission by Susan Philipsz. The song is a hymn commemorating the German revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg and her partner Karl Liebknecht, which is often chanted at political demonstrations. Susan Philipsz’s voice is neither sorrowful nor passionate but is reminiscent of a more private moment, as if we are overhearing someone singing to themselves. 'Rosa' will be played in the courtyard once a day at 12 am. Alongside its exhibition program, KW Institute for Contemporary Art is continuously pushing beyond the confines of the physical building through its commission program. 'Rosa' by Susan Philipsz is part of this program. Curious to learn more? Started with a croissant – now we’re here 🪩🥐 With Croissant Sessions, Cee Cee Creative ( @ceeceecreative) imagined and brought to life a new vision for Saturday mornings: moments of togetherness, movement, and discovering the city’s corners through curated sound and community. The croissants and coffee? Just the beginning. After sunny sessions in Neukölln and Mitte, Croissant Session No.03 is landing this Saturday (23.08.) at the iconic courtyard of KW Institute for Contemporary Art ( @kwinstitutefcontemporaryart), in collab with Café Bravo ( @cafebravo_kw), Swim Good ( @swimgoodforever) & Coffee Week Berlin ( @coffeeweek.berlin). This round, DJs Stimulus ( @stimmystim), Jenesis ( @djjenesis), and Trigger T ( @triggertassi) from music collective Swim Good bring soulful, danceable morning tunes – served live for the courtyard crowd, and captured for Swim Good Radio so you can relive the vibe later on Apple Music. Add croissants for early birds (first come, first served) and coffee classics by Café Bravo, and you’ve got the perfect start to your Saturday. Come by, move a little, meet someone new – and start your weekend the best way we know: together. Entry is free, but you’re welcome to sign up anyway. You can find the link in our bio. 📍Café Bravo at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Auguststr. 69, Berlin–Mitte. Croissant Session No.03, 23.08.2025 11–16h.
