Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets.

“It took me a while to be okay with being gay, and that was the other reason. I still feel like some kids feel that way. They feel like they have to come out, so I did it for a kid like me in some other town.” Coming off of two difficult years beset by injuries and burnout, the American hurdler #TreyCunningham is having a historic season of competition after coming out as gay last summer and learning to find the joy in every day. “I believe that we are at a time when storytelling is absolutely crucial and could be something that helps harmonize the political outlook of the world at the moment. It’s important. We need to still be, as a planet, effectively doing what we did when we were in medieval times sitting around a fireplace and being guided by didactic stories that’ll help us through this uncomfortable period of time.” Leading Netflix’s new hit series #DeptQ as the irascible detective Carl Morck, the English actor and our June digital cover subject #MatthewGoode plays against type and digs deep for a powerful portrayal of the aftereffects of trauma. “I understood it really clearly, his motivations were really clear to me, so I was able to operate from his point of view fairly easily from the get-go. I think he’s fertile ground for comedy, because I think a lot of his actions are absurd. But he’s the richest man in the world and he [thinks he] doesn’t really have to care about much. He’s excused from being a normal person and having concerns about other people.” As the world’s richest person in Jesse Armstrong’s timely new tech-bro satire ‘Mountainhead,’ #CoryMichaelSmith revels in diving deep into his noxious character. “If you’re up for rolling your sleeves up, knuckling down, and defying the odds, that’s great. But that is how it is, and I’ve only seen it get worse over the years. I can’t get complacent. You come from my sort of background, there’s all sorts of opposing factors at play, and you just can’t get complacent. I wasn’t born into it, I didn’t know anybody in the industry, I didn’t have any family ties, so you’re always, always working twice as hard to get half the way there.” As the alluring vampire Remmick in Ryan Coogler’s new hit film #SinnersMovie, our May digital cover subject #JackOConnell continues to establish himself as a generational talent, never forgetting the journey that brought him here. “I think so many actors get stuck doing one thing over and over and over again. I desperately don’t want that. I think that would get incredibly boring and taxing. Some part of this job needs to remain fun for it to feel worth it. But I do hope my legacy involves like the idea that, ‘Look how many different things he can do.’” After an Off Broadway run as Marlon Brando and the release of the horror-comedy #TheParenting, our latest digital cover subject #BrandonFlynn is moving beyond his #13ReasonsWhy fame and shaping an artistic life in full. “You always want to be cautious about your optimism in terms of how a show is going to do so I wasn’t really anticipating anything crazy, just because that’s what you have to do for your psyche. To a certain extent I do, but I also don’t really care because I think the most important thing is enjoying your time doing it and shooting it and doing the acting itself. And then also enjoying the show yourself, and I really enjoyed the show.” As Lochlan, the youngest member of the dysfunctional Ratliff family and the center of the most controversial storyline in the latest season of #TheWhiteLotus, #SamNivola is staying focused on the work amid a whirlwind of online attention. “My job is to present and preserve art. The responsibility is, I need to make sure that I do right by these artists, have their work look good, put on a show that’s thoughtful, be thoughtful about who’s included. I always want to do something that’s moving the conversation forward, and so that is where I feel pressure.” Dr. #AshleyJames, the #Guggenheim’s groundbreaking associate curator of contemporary art, re-envisions the Caribbean landscape of her family’s homeland for the latest edition of the #KingstonBiennial.
