Going through my archives, I found this Vogue from 1985. For a short time, before becoming a photographer, I was a model. The french master of photography and light Jeanloup Sieff photographed me then, as an Orphélia, dying for love, in his studio in the 17ᵉ arrondissement of Paris for @voguefrance I remember the atmosphere with clarity. I was an unexpirienced model, but Jeanloup’s calm, steady voice made me feel relaxed. His gaze was sharp yet tender — he knew how to transform uncertainty into grace. At lunchtime Jeanloup Sieff never joined the fashion team, and isolated himself , he never engaged in the usual chatter or small talk . At the time, I didn’t understand this silence. Later, when I became a photographer myself, I realized: he protected the purity of his vision, to keep his art untouched by noise. Jeanloup Sieff was — and remains — one of the greatest French photographers. To have been in front of his lens is something I carry with me still: a privilege, A secret light. Watching him work showed me that being an artist means you don’t have to conform to any social expectation.
