#SAAPresents Forty years ago, fashion photographer Richard Avedon’s series « In the American West » captured the faces of a largely overlooked America: working-class individuals and anonymous figures in striking black and white portraits taken between 1979 and 1984. The project would leave a lasting mark on the history of photography and deeply influence Steve Ney, a young fashion photographer born in Paris with roots in Pondicherry. After the loss of his father, Steve became convinced that memories captured through a photograph could bring precious moments back to life. He chooses to highlight those who are often rendered invisible in fashion, particularly members of the South Asian community. For Steve, photography is more than just an image, it is a universal language. « I discovered photography on my own, without going to school. How do you explain to a middle-class family that you want to be an artist? » This organic path to image making recently won him the Roversi endowment at Prix Picto de la Mode 2025. Moved by Avedon’s approach, Steve began a research process that honored the technical rigor of In the American West. From this research emerges « Heritage », a portrait series where each image tells the story of someone close to him: a family member, a friend, or a meaningful figure from his everyday life... faces no one would expect to see on the cover of a magazine. Yet for him, they represent his deepest sources of inspiration. « When I want to create fashion, they’re the ones who inspire me most. » Photographer: Steve Ney @imtrashuknow Photographer Assistants: Ragavane Dugen raga.dgn Sandy Ney @sandy_neyy Rabine Flory @rabineeee Styling: Steve Ney @imtrashuknow Presented by: @southasiaarchive Models : @thiravisha @thiravigah Brands: @balenciaga @supremenewyork @undercover_lab

»⁣⁣ ⁣ 📷 : @imtrashuknow, Leica M10-R⁣ ⁣ #Leica #LeicaCameraFrance #LeicaM10R
