A Century In Motion – S-Bahn Berlin (DC) Proud to open 2025 with this grade 🎨❤️ A journey through 5 different points in the history of the S-Bahn, celebrating its 100th-year birthday. In the color process for this project, we wanted to find a way to enhance the distinction between all the different times, from 1924 until now. To do that, we looked at different styles of photography and cinematography from each point in time, examined the types of ״brokenness“ in each era’s footage, and replicated some of the elements we liked most. Commercial Feature: S-Bahn Berlin - “A Century in Motion” (DC) “In the color grading process for this project, we wanted to find a way to enhance the distinction between all the different periods in history, from 1924 until now. To do that, we looked at different styles of photography from each point in time, examining each era‘s common characteristics and “brokenness” in terms of balance, tint, texture, split toning, saturation curve, contrast, and highlight rolloff. I’ve always believed Images have the power to draw us into a place we’ve never been and might never get to. Images can teach us something about the world, and about ourselves. This is why the documentary film is such a vital art form. It captures something real, something that wasn’t crafted by algorithms and rendered with a GPU. It gives both the filmmaker and the viewer time. Time to absorb, to understand, and to engage with a story beyond the surface, rather than reducing it to a fleeting, clickbait headline lost in the noise of our endless feeds. AK JOL (meaning “White Road”, a blessing similar to “safe travels”, deeply rooted in Kyrgyz culture) is a film that embodies this spirit. I had the honor of grading this short in 2024, and I can only hope that the beautiful people @louise.amelie and @franky_wbr documented in Kyrgyzstan feel seen, represented, and understood through it.
