Aglare “Suddenly you are there, back at the place we agreed never to go. The light is hot, blinding. Find it and piece it apart. Until the shapes separate and the luminosity seeps in. Until you are equally nothing and everything.” See the story in print in the new issue of FAMILY STYLE on newsstands now. www.family.style 1. Please join us: INVITATION - TALK Rachel Thomas, Chief Curator of the Hayward Gallery, in conversation with Andrée Cooke, designer, curator and Artistic Executor for the Estate of Rose Finn-Kelcey and artist Simon Moretti Join us at Kate MacGarry on Wednesday 2 April, 6–7:30pm. 27 Old Nichol Street, London E2 7HR Limited space, please RSVP Following on from her first exhibition in 2020 and a solo presentation at Frieze Masters in 2023, this exhibition focuses on three performance works by Rose Finn-Kelcey: Suit of Lights(1986-1990), Bull’s Eye (1985), and One for Sorrow, Two for Joy (1976). Finn-Kelcey’s precise and sophisticated performances challenged assumed roles of power and changes of state, as well as raising issues of gender within a feminist context. Alchemy, transformation, control and power play feature heavily across the three works, often in relation to the animal world. She visually dramatised tensions between opposing forces, making visible the dichotomy between the oppressed and oppressor, issues of gender, and positions of risk, threat and empowerment. Rose Finn-Kelcey's exhibition continues at the gallery until 12 April 2025. @katemacgarry @rachael__thomas @simon_moretti #rosefinnkelcey

Here is a Gale Warning Kettle’s Yard 22 March -29 June 2025 The exhibition borrows its title from the 1971 work Here is a Gale Warning by Rose Finn-Kelcey, a hand sewn flag originally installed at Alexandra Palace. Bearing its matter-of-fact message in block capitals, the flag broadcasts of an emergency already in progress, alerting us that perpetual crisis nonetheless demands vigilant attention. Finn-Kelcey’s ‘Gale Warning’ was her contribution to a nationwide exhibition called Art Spectrum. It was part of a series of flag works she made to be installed upon civic architecture, including power to the people at Battersea Power Station. She referred to these as ‘wind-dependent objects’, relinquishing, as the art critic Guy Brett suggested, the artist’s usual ‘total control over the object’, and instead opening it ‘to the forces of nature’.
