Thank you Andrew Bolton and the entire @metmuseum @metcostumeinstitute team, the Sleeping Beauties- Reawakening Fashion exhibition was phenomenal. Last October I received an email from Andrew Bolton, writing to acquire pieces from my MAMI WATA collection for the @metcostumeinstitute ‘s permanent collection. At first we thought it was a joke, we were so delirious from the ss24 show nothing made sense at that point. The @metmuseum @metcostumeinstitute acquired 7 pieces from the MAMI WATA Cross-Seasonal 2023 collection (Mami Wata Puff Dress, Mami Wata Slip’in Dress, Mami Wata Long Skirt, Mami Wata Shirt, Two Mami Wata Hats and One Mami Wata Peruke Crown). Seeing the pieces in Sleeping Beauties felt so strange - I’m still completely speechless, this is surreal. Very very happy to share that the @vamuseum have acquired two looks from our SS24 debut collection Fire on the Mountain, Look 1 worn by Naomi Campbell @naomi and Look 19 worn by Devyn Garcia @devynfaithgarcia -now part of the V&A’s permanent Textiles and Fashion collection. Thank you to the Victoria & Albert Museum, and a very special thank you to Claire Allen-Johnstone. I used to spend hours in the V&A especially in the library- and still do from time to time, so to now have some of our work in the permanent collection is just bloody amazing
