Maria Grazia Chiuri @mariagraziachiuri bids farewell to @dior with a collection in her city of Rome … but she has other major projects - including the @teatrocometa founded by Mimi Pecci Blunt in 1958. We were treated to a delightful performance costumed by Maria Grazia (that serpent tempting Adam and Eve is costumed like one of her finale dresses for Dior!). After this we had a trip to Nero’s splendid house - moments from the Colosseum, it was unknown to me until this moment. We visited Pietro Ruffo @pietroruffoartist to see his ravishing scarves for @dior and his remarkable works on paper. Then we visited my old friends at @tirellicostumi surrounded by costumes from Visconti etc etc - it is as if I closed my eyes and went to heaven! And we took in ‘En Route’ at the Vatican library and then saw the treasures they have. Then it was back to @hoteldelavillerome to change into black tie, for Maria Grazia’s finale at @dior. Alas, the heavens opened but we were outside at the extraordinary Villa Albani Torlonia. So, through clear plastic umbrellas we saw it all!
Giancarlo Giammetti @giancarlogiammetti fresh from the success of unveiling his Valentino Garavani show, also revealed his new ‘office’ by which he meant a series of palatial rooms on the third floor of a palace on Via Condotti in Rome. Laura Rimini of @studioperegalli has worked her magic here. Interestingly this sumptuous series of rooms had once been Valentino’s own atelier in the early 1960s. I was struck by this dashing ‘60s portrait of Giancarlo by @pauljasminphotography the brilliant and life enhancing Los Angeles guy who I have just learnt has died on this day. I was about to send him this image of his glorious youthful exuberance with paint. I’m so sad, he was a brilliant spark.
Giancarlo Giammetti @giancarlogiammetti has unveiled the @fondazionevggg at the Piazza Mignanelli, Rome. For the first show @pamelagolbin selected Valentino Garavani dresses in dazzling red from the mid 60s through the 80s and 2000s. Timeless chic. They were juxtaposed with art from mid century to contemporary - all featuring that red. For the mannequins, @patrickkinmonth inspired by (guest of honour) @natasupernova used her exquisite face - and very beautiful they were too. After the opening we had a magnificent dinner at the Palazzo Barberini, Giancarlo spoke, and then we headed downstairs to see the stupendous Caravaggio show. At half past ten at night … I was the last in there at midnight. There are no words to describe the works. Mind blowing. What a night!!!

[EXHIBITION] « I was in the vintage shop Cavalli e Nastri in Milan a few years ago, when I came across this ensemble. The stark, two-tone graphic impact of black and white made me think of Pablo Picasso portraits of his muse Dora Maar. Indeed, as I later researched the piece, I learned that Yves’ Spring—Summer 1980 SAINT LAURENT rive gauche collection drew in part on the legacy of the couturier’s fascination with Picasso’s designs for the 1919 production of Le Tricorne by the Ballets Russes. Pochoir prints of the original costumes illustrate the unmistakable link. I love this piece, so evocative of Yves’ powerful connection to art. Finding the suit on the runway, on Mounia Orosemane with Moujik—Yves’ black and white French bulldog—in tow, was even more moving » — Hamish Bowles Day suit Jacket and skirt Wool gabardine Spring–Summer 1980 SAINT LAURENT rive gauche Hamish Bowles Collection — « Il y a quelques années, je suis tombé sur cet ensemble dans la boutique de seconde main Cavalli e Nastri à Milan.
