Thank you @annehathaway for being the greatest date imaginable. I loved every second of our collaboration and had the best time with you celebrating SUPERFINE: Tailoring Black Style at this year’s Met Gala. There are many things that come to mind when thinking of Herrera but the perfect white shirt is certainly one of them. Anne’s white shirt took her from the Met, where it was paired with a striped skirt embroidered with 200,000 crystals, to the after parties worn with black pants. In the words of Carolina herself, “It’s the person and the way that they wear a white shirt that makes them different.” I’ll always remember the late Andre Leon Talley at the stairs of the Met, critiquing each outfit, and Anne and I wanted to make him smile from up above this year. A very special thanks to the brilliant @erinwalshstyle and everyone who made this possible.
Anne Hathaway Wears Custom Carolina Herrera to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit 2025, in a look designed by Creative Director Wes Gordon as a tribute to André Leon Talley. Anne wears a structured column skirt in contrasting black-and-white stripe crystal embroidery, with oversized white cotton button-down shirt and point-toe mules in black. In celebrating this year’s theme of SUPERFINE: Tailoring Black Style, the inspiration for Anne’s look was André Leon Talley, one of the most singular Black Dandies of his time, and his lifelong friendship with founder Carolina Herrera. André was the first person to interview her in the official capacity of a fashion designer when she launched the house in 1981 for Interview Magazine, and an avid supporter of Carolina Herrera. Creative Director Wes Gordon partnered with SCAD, which was gifted André’s personal archive and is mounting an exhibition of his collection in Atlanta and Savannah later this year. SCAD provided Wes exclusive access to this archive, to serve as inspiration for Anne’s look. For Anne, Wes created an embroidered column skirt in contrasting black and white hand-applied crystal embroidery, evoking an impeccably tailored suit in stripes - a key Herrera signature. A crisp white cotton shirt, a timeless piece beloved by both Carolina Herrera and André Leon Talley, serves as the foundation of this immaculately tailored look. The signature oversized white cotton shirt is tied at the waist, a nod to the effortless style and individual cool of Dandyism. “The white shirt is about the person and the way they wear it that makes it different.” – Carolina Herrera “It is a moral code to dress well. Whatever your budget — you can wear a white shirt…and be well dressed.” – André Leon Talley Styling by Erin Walsh Hair by Orlando Pita Make Up by Jillian Dempsey Nails by Jin Soon Jewelry Bulgari Image via Getty #metgala
