Kettle is the shortened term for kettle and hob, which is Cockney rhyming slang for fob watch and first came into use when pocket watches were the norm. Jacob, 27, and his brother Harvey, 29, landed on the name Kettle Kids after older watch dealers started referring to them as kids who were “ruining the watch game,” says Harvey. “Kettle Kids sounded cool, so we sort of rolled with it.” In a little over seven years, Kettle Kids has become an unlikely infiltrator of London’s luxury watch world. Jacob and Harvey began flipping watches out of rucksacks on the street and in coffee shops, using social media to open them up to a much bigger pool of grail-hungry watch fiends. At first, it was friends and family; today they boast a client list ranging from everyday guys to pro athletes and Hollywood actors, who all come to Kettle Kids for one thing: the world’s rarest watches, all stocked (or available to source) in one place.
