VIRTUAL BEAUTY The release of the Samsung SGH-V200 in 2003 marked the emergence of a culture shaped by technology. As one of the first commercial devices with a built-in rotating camera, the cell phone transformed the self-portrait and was an early tool in what has come to define contemporary beauty. Virtual Beauty, newly opened exhibition at London’s Somerset House, features the 21 year old phone alongside works by 20 artists that explore the roots of digital self-representation, algorithm-informed ideals and modern interpretations of beauty and its impacts. UNDER EVEREST: LAURENCE ELLIS Lukla, a small Nepali town perched 2,860 meters above sea level, is a common starting point for those hoping to reach the top of the world—Mount Everest. For Beyond Noise Issue 2, photographer @laurenceellis turned his lens toward the lives and community of women Sherpas living beneath the dizzying peaks.  These women, who are carving out new paths in the wake of their growing global presence continue to play a vital role in supporting mountaineers on their treacherous expeditions. BEYOND THE BORDER: KEISUKEYOSHIDA FOR BEYOND NOISE DIGITAL The second edition of Beyond the Border spotlights KEISUKEYOSHIDA. The garments were created in the designer’s home city of Tokyo, photographed in Yeouido, Seoul, then animated via the power of AI—crossing not just physical boundaries, but also creative ones. Keisuke Yoshida, the label’s founder and namesake, pulls from a wide range of influences. A constant source of inspiration, though, is his own evolution, which required a kind of vulnerability: “Fashion is both a means of revealing and transforming. Transformation requires understanding, acceptance, and overcoming oneself, which exposes rawness.
