Asks a lot of questions
One of my favorite stories ever: @robwilsonwork has dinner @cafeluxembourg, doodles on table paper during the meal, leaves and thinks nothing of it. Except the GM kept the drawing. The rest is history. Link in bio to Forbes story. It’s super cute.
Remember how W Union Square was a THING when it opened in 2001?! A lot has happened since then. Including a $100m renovation (mostly) at the hands of Rockwell Group, with a rooftop situation by AvroKO. As a refresher: it’s in a 1911 Beaux Arts building that was Guardian Life. 256 rooms and, believe it or not, a comma is involved.
I hear Nice is…..nice? Le Soleia is on the Avenue Victor Hugo, which I also hear is the, or perhaps a, place to be. 46 rooms and suites designed by Oscar Lucien Ono of Maison Numéro 20, based in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Those frescoes are by artist Raphael Schmitt. Looks spendy but no comma! For amusement: my favorite line from the press statement. "Le Soleia is not merely a hotel: it is an open-air narrative, where art weaves an intimate connection with space.” I’m collecting these lines, btw, for a one-woman show later.
Guess who designed the Brach Madrid hotel? Philippe Starck. Not a misprint. 57 rooms in a 1920s building, designed to feel like a home, with collections blah blah. No comma. Spotted in Dezeen; photos by Guillaume De Laubier.
The legendary Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s Villa La Guettière has re-emerged after a renovation. It’s a 9-bedroom estate with infinity pool, summer kitchen, fitness suite, cinema, spa with sauna and hammam and, of course, an extensive wine cellar. Did I mention it’s also set on 6,500 sq meters of private land? Oui! Architect: Luc Svetchine Designer: Comtesse Bergit Gräfin Douglas of MM Design Frankfurt. Rates start from $73,505-ish per night, all amenities included. Photos: Sordello
Love this: Jasper Morrison designed wooden flatware for Puiforcat. It was specifically intended to accompany the Donald Judd silver pieces offered by the company and is made using Japanese cherry wood with a Japanese lacquer finish. Options include a table fork, knife and spoon, salad servers and chopsticks. Prices range from $205-285. From the brand: "Although it is new for Puiforcat to offer cutlery in this material, the combination of wood and silver was already present in Jean Puiforcat’s creations.” Photos: Thomas Duval
Mylos Hotel in Corsica by @dorotheemeilichzon. Architecture by @orma_architettura 35 rooms. Not even close to a comma (so refreshing!) Photos by Juile Ansiau. Spotted in Dezeen.
Fiat Topolino Vilebrequin Collector's Edition. Cuuuuute.
News from Joshua Tree: Hotel Wren has opened in 29 Palms. 12 rooms in a former 1940s roadside hotel. Design by Jessica Pell of @manola.studio "Half of the rooms face the desert, with bathtubs and private patios that open directly to the vast landscape. The remaining rooms offer enclosed patios and showers, creating a more secluded retreat. All feature built-in banquettes and gas fireplaces." From $275/night. @hotel.wren
Welcome to Crete. This, believe it or not, is a JW Marriott. 160 rooms, suites and villas. All with views of the Aegean, most with private pools. I am not in one of them but may add to the list. Starting rate has no comma. Design by @block722architects @jwmarriottcreteresort
I'm not one for hyperbole but am kind of dying over this guest suite designed by Daniel Valero of @mestizmx It's called Mesonia, it's in San Miguel de Allende, and available for nightly rentals as of July 1. Daniel designed everything in it and it was all hand made in Mexico. Bonus: sits above one of the best bakeries in town. Full story with intel from him is at Forbes link in my bio. @mesoniamx Photos: @pepemolinafoto
