ISO KOTA — a contemporary pavilion inspired by the Finnish kota, reimagined as a place of gathering, rhythm, and light. Defined by a triangular LVL timber frame and layered slats, the structure creates shifting patterns of light and shadow — lightness and transparency paired with a sense of monumentality. This project has been part of my summer’s exploration of architecture as both craft and cultural expression. I’m excited to share it and the process behind it.

CAPSULE Set between two rigid structures in Tampere’s urban core, CAPSULE emerges as a sculptural response to spatial pressure — an architectural form that feels compressed, molded by its surroundings. Its elliptical shape resists the rectilinear logic of the city, introducing softness, contrast, and tension. The aim was to design more than just a building. CAPSULE acts like an urban installation — something that doesn’t simply fill space, but creates a moment in the streetscape. The soft geometry breaks from the surrounding angular rhythm, drawing the eye and inviting reflection. It’s a presence that disrupts and elevates the everyday. Inside, the space is tailored for a sculptor. The ground floor is a generous, semi-public studio connected to the street. Above, two private residential levels step back and rise, forming a continuous vertical space that breathes light and openness throughout the structure. CAPSULE isn’t just a residence or a workplace — it’s a spatial statement. A form shaped by its environment, yet unapologetically its own. A soft force in the city’s hard frame. A place that speaks through shape, space, and silence. I’m proud to present CAPSULE as the closing project of my first year studying architecture — a personal milestone, and a beginning.
CAPSULE — Model, Drawings & Process Where the first impression of CAPSULE is sculptural, the details reveal the deeper intent. This post gathers the model, sections, floorplans, and the original concept sketch — a closer look at a building shaped by contrast, ambiguity, and presence. Set between rigid city structures, CAPSULE was designed as an act of resistance. Its elliptical form slices through the hard lines of Tampere’s built environment, offering softness where everything else is angular. Round against square. Silent against loud. One of the most defining features is its windowless street-facing facade — heavy, closed, and unapologetic. Inspired by the brutalist apartment blocks in Hervanta, this blank surface offers no clues to the building’s purpose. It is meant to confuse. To disrupt. To make people wonder what, if anything, lies inside. Light comes only from above. A single, massive 53 m² skylight spans the building, flooding the interior with changing daylight. It’s an inversion of typical domestic architecture — private where others are open, exposed where others are hidden. The name CAPSULE reflects both the form and the concept of timelessness. Like a time capsule, the building is sealed, self-contained, and designed to outlast the shifting city around it. It doesn’t conform — it endures.
RAILO Carved from solid stone, this project honors nature’s forces through caves of peace and introspection. Inspired by Finnish cliffs, the design merges raw power with refined form. Natural light filters through narrow openings, while concrete, stone, and glass seamlessly integrate with the landscape. More than a structure – it’s a fusion of nature’s strength and architectural precision.
