Some people will choose who they think matters in the room. But you don’t need to chase validation. Let your work, your presence, and your energy speak. Know your value—and never be afraid to hold it. So, here’s what happened... I was invited to an Opera Dinner last night—a beautiful venue draped in deep red velvet, with a live pianist and a powerful female vocalist setting the mood. Pure elegance. The food was next level, and the sommelier (possibly Filipino!) made sure I was well taken care of. I wish I had the chance to say goodbye and confirm if he was kabayan—but still, a highlight of the night. I was seated with strangers: a guy to my left, three ladies to my right. I broke the ice with friendly small talk—names, what they do, if it was their first time there. Two of the girls were super warm and chatty, one was more reserved (totally fine), and the guy? Very talkative. We had a great back-and-forth the whole dinner. But here’s where it got a little strange.
As dinner wrapped up, he asked everyone at the table for their IG handles—except me. It was… noticeable.
So a minute later, I casually took out my phone and asked the girls for theirs. One of them looked at my profile and said,
“Oh wow, you’re actually a really good fashion photographer! And we have so many mutuals!”
(She runs a media agency, by the way.) As for the guy? I didn’t ask for his IG. On purpose.
Sometimes it’s better to leave it there—and that’s enough. Moral of the story: You’re not for everyone—and that’s your superpower.
Move with grace. Keep showing up. The right people will always recognize the value you bring.

2024 may have been a bitter year, but we are ending it with hope, gratitude, and valuable lessons.
