Just a few months shy of a decade since I started, I am leaving Glamour. From portraits of celebrities to activists, beauty images to still life, illustrations, and videos, I am grateful for every minute. Thank you. Here are just a few faves as I look back. “Glamour: An Extraordinary History” is finally out after two years of work! (Link to buy in bio) This book is a fun and fascinating look at 85 years of Glamour magazine. Beginning in 1939, Glamour pivoted as WWII changed the lives of American women and has been evolving ever since to cover work, race, marriage, sex, abortion, fashion and more. Looking back at all the images and stories, you cannot help but see how much has changed - it took 29 years to put a Black woman on the cover, a first for any American fashion magazine - and how much remains the same. See the last slide for a debate on career vs housewife (Illustrated by Andy Warhol), that seems right at home with the current “Trad Wife” debates I see on social media today. There is no easy hack to making a book like this. It is hours upon hours of work, sifting through 1000 back issues, agonizing over which photos to include and trying layout after layout. Finding who can ID the models from past photos (thank you @dbrock324 ) and internet sleuthing to find photographers from thirty years ago. It would not have happened without the hard work and passion of @izlobel . Thank you. Thank you to @tashpearlman for the concept, leadership and writing of the book.
