GAME CHANGER at the British Luxury Awards.🏆 Wow. Where do I even begin? ❤️ Thank you so much @walpole_uk for this incredible recognition. With last year’s winner being @mclaren , this award is given to the innovators or innovations of British luxury – people, products or services which have shifted the dial and demonstrated meaningful change within their sector. 10 years ago when I graduated from the Royal College of Art setting out to change the dialogue in the fine jewellery industry with laboratory-grown gemstones and recycled metals — people thought I was crazy. But isn’t it so true that it is those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world that actually do? My 6yo daughter Valentine’s favourite storybooks are a series called ‘Little People, Big Dreams’. It made me realise that every single one of us has a superpower within us - and that is the ability to dream. Because if you can imagine it, you can make it a reality. From pioneering recycled refined aluminium from soda cans, to working with diamonds synthesised from air using carbon dioxide capture technology from Switzerland, to regenerative pearl farming in French Polynesia that restores coral reefs and bring back near extinct species in the process; to utilising blockchain technology to guarantee full traceability to the very miner themselve in Tanzania and Kenya whereby they are guaranteed to receive 95% of the export price of each stone - there are no limits to what we can achieve, if we care enough to change the game - for planet, for people and for a better future. Thank you so much for this award and I cannot wait to keep learning and exploring. September 💚 How about a Film Club? 🎬 During the Summer months, I watched 3 films that I found thought-provoking, inspiring and at times staggering. 1. COMMON GROUND The quality of what we eat is the quality of our health. Food is medicine. @commongroundfilm is a documentary that follows the pioneers of the regenerative movement - creating a new food system that produces nutrient-dense food whilst healing our climate, bodies and ecosystem. The soil stores 75% of our land carbon. Healthy soil looks like chocolate cake -it is about increasing the carbon content in it through the process of photosynthesis by plants and crops that sequester carbon dioxide from our atmosphere and stores them underground, whilst releasing oxygen into the air for us to breath. It is full of nutrients and fuel the vast mycelium network underground that gives life to all microorganisms, and nature. We are constantly told that farmers need to grow more crops faster to feed the growing global population - but did you know that 40% of the food available to us in the West goes to landfills every year as excess? It is not about growing more, but growing better and distributing better, whilst providing the solution to climate change. Regenerative farming is about working with our soil to better it - through crop rotation and the use of cover crops, eliminating toxic pesticides and chemicals, using live herds like cows and sheep to graze and fertilise the soil, and to eliminate the use of tillage - the act of ploughing and cutting through the soil with motorised rotational blades that severs all microbial biome connections that move nutrients and carbon around. If all our soil are healthy, it has the ability to sequester ALL the carbon we produce in the world to net zero. I truly believe the solution to climate change is in our soil and our oceans. 2. CAN I GET A WITNESS? @cigawfilm2024 In a fictional post-apocalyptic world in 2040, there is finally utopia, but at what price? 3. OUR STORY with David Attenborough @natural_history_museum - We all have a significant superpower - our ability to problem solve and work with nature to better it, to change and save the world. 💚
