Uncovering the world of Patek Philippe, the last independent, family-owned Genevan watch manufacture. Welcome. #PatekTime

Patek Philippe - @PatekPhilippe media

The Gondolo Gemma’s name comes from the Italian word for “gem” – an association deepened by the watch’s facetted case and sapphire crystal face, which mimic the brilliant cut of a polished gemstone. The white mother-of-pearl dial and its central guilloché design contribute to the jewel-like play of light that the watch creates. On the dial, the black baton hour markers, minute markers, and blued-steel lozenge hands contribute to the elegant, geometric aesthetic of this art deco-inspired collection; and a specially designed, facetted 16 mm prong buckle emphasizes the model’s unique case shape. The three references featuring the manually wound caliber 16-250 have a sapphire crystal aperture in the caseback, through which the movement can be admired. And the dazzling haute joaillerie Ref. 4993, which is the final model in the series, is fully paved with a total of 286 diamonds (~12.25 cts.). The Gondolo Gemma is no longer featured in the Patek Philippe Current Collection. #PatekTime #PatekPhilippe

The Gondolo Gemma, produced between 2006 and 2010, was created in 18k white or rose gold, with a distinctive 37.2 mm x 22.4 mm rectangular case. The quartz timepieces (Ref. 4981 and Ref. 4982 of 2006; and the solid-metal, non-jeweled Ref. 4980 of 2008) are fitted with the caliber E15. The manually wound versions (Ref. 4991 and Ref. 4992 of 2006; and the Ref. 4993 of 2009) hold the caliber 16-250, which has also been used in the Calatrava collection. This 2.5 mm high mechanical movement is visible through a sapphire crystal aperture in the Gemma’s caseback. Each jeweled model is set with diamond arrangements around the bezel and lugs. In the case of the haute joaillerie versions, diamonds also adorn the dial, caseband, crown, and buckle. A variety of strap options were designed to complement their corresponding model, available in a matte white, aubergine, pastel rose or silvery gray color. The Gondolo Gemma is no longer featured in the Patek Philippe Current Collection. #PatekTime #PatekPhilippe

When the Gondolo Gemma collection launched in 2006 with four diamond-set models (Ref. 4981, Ref. 4982, Ref. 4991, & Ref. 4992), it established itself as a family of timepieces with a strong and recognizable personality. The model’s expressive shape was inspired by the company’s 1933 Ref. 139, which is held at the Patek Philippe Museum, Geneva (Inv. P-1318). This “drivers” watch is wider than it is high, to allow for easy reading while behind the wheel – a design that was the blueprint for the Gondolo Gemma’s cambered, satin-finished, tonneau-shaped case. Art deco details and contemporary technical expertise are combined in this collection to create a true modern-vintage classic. The Gondolo Gemma is no longer featured in the Patek Philippe Current Collection. #PatekTime #PatekPhilippe
