TO NEW YORK I can’t love you enough! I don’t know if it’s the way you raised me, or the way I raised you, but we’ve carried each other and now we are here with more than a love but a life. Standing here as I did when I came into this world, I feel like you and you feel like me. I love you because of how real you are, how much you care, and how the nonsense never fazes you. You are always thinking. Your heart is always beating. You are my first love and you will be my last. Although I carry feelings, memories, lessons and thoughts from around the world, for some reason I always come back to you. I am free with you, able to be myself with you. Walking through Jackson Heights in January. At the turn of every block, the wind found us—not just a breeze, but a force, pushing against our skin like a quiet resistance. It felt like the Tramuntana winds had crossed the ocean just to meet us right there, on the corner of Broadway and Rosevelt Ave in Queens. The same chill, the same sharp whisper, as if the winds from the north of Mallorca and the streets of New York shared a secret we were meant to hear. I’ve known them both—the winds that shape mountains,and the ones that slip between buildings. Álvaro, your heart is unmatched.
We only spoke briefly about creating something together, but it became something even more meaningful the moment you told me the name of the song—“Tramuntana.” A place I grew up in. A wind, a mountain range, a feeling I’ve carried with me. I’ve spent my life going back and forth between New York and Mallorca. So when you asked me to create this video in NYC, it felt like something bigger than a collaboration. It felt like home in two places at once.
